Installing the Facebook SDK for Visual Studio
Installing the Facebook SDK for Android on Eclipse was pretty straightforward. I hoped it would be the same for Windows Phone...
Facebook tutorial page:
http://facebooksdk.net/docs/phone/tutorial/
Problems & solutions:
- NuGet (package manager) required -> Forget about Visual Studio express 2010 and use the 2012 version. Because of that, you'll need a Windows 8 computer
- Error "Could not install package 'Facebook 6.4.0'" when installing the SDK on a fresh Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone 2012 -> Several solutions found online:
- Follow instructions from Nokia (http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/How_to_use_Facebook_Graph_API_in_Windows_Phone): didn't work any better and seems to be outdated anyway (version of the SDK there is 5.3)
- Use a previous version of the SDK : Maybe, but I'd prefer to have the latest version
- Update NuGet : (solution found here : http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpdevelop/thread/67c11eae-6f16-43ac-a2b3-cf4a8edf8182/) . That's the solution that worked in my case (Go to tools -> Extensions and Updates)
Now on with the Facebook development!
